One of my favorite quotes on the struggles we see every day here at HELP of Door County was shared by Will McAvoy in the final episode of The Newsroom when he told his wife, Mckenzie:
“There’s a hole in the side of my boat. That hole is never going to be fixed, it’s never going away, and I can’t get a new boat. What I have to do is bail water out faster than it’s coming in.”
This is actually life for many of the people we encounter everyday. For many people that we see, life is a boat with a hole in the side. Life is just baling water out faster than it’s coming in. And there’s nobility and joy in doing this. It’s exhausting sometimes. It’s depressing sometimes, too. But it’s much needed and valuable work.
I am grateful for our dedicated staff, volunteers, supporters and friends that help bale out the water from the boats of those we serve. Thank-you to everyone who helps keep those most at risk and vulnerable afloat.
